In partnership with MATCH MG, our team designed and built a traveling activation which highlighted the innovation of the new Adidas “Boost” material. Made from thousands of pressed foam pellets, this material was the first of its kind to return energy to the user - revolutionizing both the brand and the standard for running shoes. To showcase this energy return, users were invited to try on the shoes and participate in two interactive experiences. The Energy Platform mapped the user’s movement and energy and displayed them on a wall of monitors moving through various challenges. The Momentum Wall was made of 90 pellets controlled by 180 motors which mimicked the user’s motion through an assortment of undulating patterns. This activation, now in its third year, has traveled to over 30 cities nationwide.

With direction from Civic Entertainment Group, Liftoff designed and built the entrance to an event held by Ford for the North American release of their Eco Sport vehicle. The Eco Sport (pronounced “echo”) promotes a large lifestyle by means of a compact vehicle. To reinforce this “echo” theme, our 40 foot entrance tunnel used light and sound to create an immersive experience which set the tone for the rest of the event. Located in the heart of Hollywood Boulevard, original music and interactive lighting successfully attracted pedestrians from the street, leading to a multitude of shareable social media moments.

Under the direction of the Mad Decent record label, our team engineered and fabricated a set of DJ booths that travel with Red Bull to various entertainment and sporting events. Two of the booths use a series of LED lights that respond to live music with pre-programmed effects to enhance the user’s experience. The third DJ booth was designed and built for Skrillex, made from water jet stainless steel panels, all welded together to create an organic shape.

Partnering with Campfire NYC once again, Liftoff set out to create a completely immersive Westworld experience for San Diego’s Comic-Con. The event was a tactile escape from reality which placed visitors into the world of Delos. Upon arrival guests were escorted through a Delos branded door, into a showroom reminiscent of the show. Additional elements such as the wall of cast heads and entry hallway were recreated for the experience, while a few surprises and hints for future seasons of Westworld were added along the way. The final destination for visitors was in the Mariposa saloon, complete with a specialty cocktails, a player piano, and a custom built bar for the occasion.

HBO’s Westworld VR Booth, with the presence of a pristine, modern office space, stood out amongst the displays at Tech Crunch Disrupt’s 2016 conference in San Francisco. Liftoff, in collaboration with Campfire, designed, engineered and installed an immersive experience for HBO’s latest drama. The booth, which boasted only Westworld branding, allowed visitors to fully immerse themselves into the environment. After checking in, guests were escorted through a hallway reminiscent of the show’s set into private rooms designed specifically for the virtual reality experience. The 900 square foot booth was also designed with mobility in mind, and was installed again at New York Comic Con

To celebrate international day of yoga, Adidas and HappyLucky hosted a yoga class in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. For the event we constructed and installed mirrored mantra walls which served as a reflective backdrop for the participants. The panels echoed the signature Adidas logo and blended in seamlessly with the Los Angeles skyline. The simple design enhanced the city views and participants, who arrived early enough to start the class with the sunrise.

To launch the highly-anticipated film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we partnered with Deutsch LA and Target to “Share the Force” at LA Live. “Galactic History Domes” were filled with custom fixtures and display cases, housing Star Wars memorabilia. Interactive displays allowed consumers to fully immerse themselves in the Star Wars experience. Visitors were even invited to maneuver BB-8 droids over the sculpted surface of Tattooine with their minds using EEG headsets. To bring the multi-branded experience together, we constructed a dramatic step and repeat using over 700 action figures to depict the iconic Target logo.

Working alongside Deutsch LA, in conjunction with retailer Target, we produced an environment for social interaction and engagement. The theme, “Truth and Dare,” was realized through a series of optical illusions designed to challenge the attendee’s perspectives, playing on the idea of ever-changing “truths.” One representation included a hanging mobile, comprised of thousands of red and white balls, which revealed two different images depending on the point of view. We designed, engineered and fabricated the installation; including flooring, custom seating, a coffee bar and the sound booth for the Lightwave Technology experience.

Located in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, this installation contains 140 custom metal panels with 2080 custom metal discs, each containing an LED. Each disc rests against a spring, waving in the wind. While each LED can be uniquely controlled to create an endless amount of patterns. Together, the waving of the discs, pairs with the patterns of the LEDs to create an organic illusion like that of a river or clouds.

In 2015, Nike reopened its brand experience store on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. We engineered, built and installed the aesthetic focal point of the space, which transformed reclaimed gym floors into a floating brand experience. The lightweight, low profile armature used was composed of bespoke machined brackets, and created the illusion of the sculpture being suspended in mid-air. A combination of laser etching and 3D milling revealed the quintessential “Just Do It” message from specific viewpoints in the store.

3.1 Phillip Lim is a concept store which opened in the heart of the Arts District in downtown LA. We worked in collaboration with designer Kate McCollough and MR Architecture to create a studio-meets-gallery vibe in the space. Raw materials were utilized to create a minimal, modern space. Plaster details on the interior, as well as stucco on the facade create a soft juxtaposition against the existing buildings in the area. The fixtures are simplistic and utilitarian, allowing the product to highlight the store.

Working under the direction of designer Kate McCollough, Liftoff transformed Goop, Gweneth Paltrow’s lifestyle blog and brand, into a sophisticated retail pop-up at the Brentwood Country Mart. The goal of Goop Gift was to create a beautiful, but simple space highlighting all of Paltrow’s “favorite things” for the holidays. The meticulously curated pop-up is complemented by a monochromatic, minimal interior. Custom, hand-made light fixtures bring a warm, industrial touch to the store. Liftoff crafted linear, geometric displays allowing the product to be the center of attention, and providing flexibility in merchandising.

For the much anticipated release of the Apple Watch, our team worked with Apple to design and build an installation which occupied four windows in the iconic Selfridges department store on Oxford St. in London. Inspired by a popular Apple Watch wallpaper, we suspended 3,000 polished aluminum butterflies and programmed over 250,000 LED lights, to represent a moving swarm of butterflies that lead visitors from one window to the next. Upon arriving at the last and largest window of this Apple pop-up shop, visitors would discover that at just the right angle, this swarm of butterflies revealed the Apple logo.

When Liftoff moved into 1310 S. Grand, it was a completely raw space. We utilized this blank space to create a modern, minimal office environment. The overall square footage was divided in half, separating the office spaces from the shop, with a sound-proof wall in between. The glass conference room allows for light and transparency, while still providing a private space. We designed a kitchen area which functions both as a break area and additional work spaces. The main office space is open and airy, allowing for change and modularity.
